CEN · EN 10025-2:2019

Family of unalloyed carbon structural steels used in steel framing, locksmithing/metalwork and light boilermaking for applications without high-strength requirements. It's the most common and cheapest grade on the market, available in nearly every region of the world under closely related designations.

Note: The top grade of the common structural steel family (beyond this, one enters the S355M/S420/S460 HSLA range). Thickness ≤16 mm, Charpy impact energy ≥27 J at +20°C for the JR suffix; also available as J0/J2 for better low-temperature toughness. Placed here rather than in the HSLA family because EN 10025-2 classifies it as a standard unalloyed steel (unlike S355M/N, which are normalized/fine-grain thermomechanical variants).
