CEN · EN 10222-5
Austenitic-ferritic (duplex) chromium-nickel-molybdenum-nitrogen stainless steel, the most widely used grade in the duplex family. Extensively used in offshore oil & gas piping and flanges for its resistance to pitting and stress-corrosion cracking in seawater/chloride environments, with a yield strength roughly double that of standard austenitic stainless steels (304/316). Not recommended above 300°C (embrittlement) or below -50°C (ductile-to-brittle transition).

Note: The original brief suggested EN 1.4462 via EN 10088-3 (bar product); to stay consistent with this batch's "forged flanges/fittings" theme, the designation retained here is EN 10222-5 ("Steel forgings for pressure purposes — Part 5: Martensitic, austenitic and austenitic-ferritic stainless steels"), which reuses EN 10088-2's chemical composition but gives mechanical properties specific to the forged/solution-annealed (+AT) condition. The mechanical values (Rm 640-920 MPa in the +AT solution-annealed condition, Rp0.2 450 MPa min) are consistent with the forged American equivalent A182 F51. In practice, the EN 1.4462 composition spans a window close to S31803 through S32205 depending on the nitrogen content actually supplied.
