A662 Grade C

USApproximate match

ASTM/ASME · ASTM A662/A662M

Family of fine-grain, aluminum-killed carbon-manganese-silicon steel plates, normalized and Charpy-impact tested to guarantee good toughness at low temperature. Used for liquefied gas storage tanks, air separation units, LPG spheres and equipment exposed to sub-zero service temperatures (typically -20°C to -60°C), without requiring the nickel-alloy steels reserved for more extreme cryogenic applications.

Note: ASTM A662 (grades A/B/C, increasing strength) is the carbon-manganese-silicon plate standard for moderate and low-temperature service, closest to the JIS SLA365 and EN P355NL2 series. Caution: several Chinese trading sites show identical Mn/Si ranges for grades B and C, suggesting a possible reuse of a generic table rather than values verified grade by grade — treat the composition above with caution and confirm it against a real mill certificate before production use. As with the previous grade, this corrects the erroneous A333 Gr.6 / A420 designations initially suggested, which are pipe and fitting standards, not plate.

Values compiled from public sources for guidance only — always verify against the official standard before use in design or fabrication.
